Message from President, KPAE

Dear Members of our KP Biradari,

As we step into a new year, January offers us a moment to pause, reflect, and express gratitude for all that we have shared and achieved together over the past year. The year gone by has been one of energy, engagement, and collective effort, reflecting the strength and spirit of our community.

Throughout the year, we came together across cities and generations through a wide range of cultural, sporting, spiritual, and social initiatives. From the enthusiasm and camaraderie of the KPAE Badminton Tournament in Milton Keynes and the KPAE Cricket Tournament in Catford, to the deep spiritual resonance of Shivratri celebrations in Shepherd’s Bush and Navreh in Birmingham, each event strengthened our bonds and reaffirmed our shared heritage.

Our collective presence was also felt in meaningful community spaces — the Kheerbhawani Bhavan gathering in Epsom, the Walk for Charity in Regent’s Park, the much-loved Dinner & Dance in Hounslow, and our first KPAE film screening in Harrow commemorating Gopinath Bub, which added a new cultural dimension to our community engagement.

Alongside these flagship events, our weekly shloka and bhajan sessions, Hindi and Kashmiri language classes, and monthly Gita sessions have continued to nurture spiritual growth, cultural continuity, and inter-generational learning. These regular touchpoints quietly but powerfully anchor our community values.

This year also marked important new beginnings. The launch of the Orzu Dorkuth and Doakhh initiative represents a thoughtful step forward, and we look ahead with optimism to its implementation and impact in the months to come.

Our Bhavan initiative has gathered strong momentum. We have formally submitted our application for Charity Status and have grown our starting community contribution pot for this initiative to £25,000. With the blessings, guidance, and wisdom of our elders, we are confident that this initiative will soon move into its next phase, bringing us closer to a lasting legacy for future generations.

None of this would have been possible without the tireless dedication of our volunteers and our paid members. The time, effort, and seva bhaav of our volunteers, and the regular financial contributions of our members, form the backbone of everything we do. On behalf of the Executive Committee and the entire community, I extend our heartfelt thanks to each one of you.

As we enter the new year, let us carry forward this spirit of unity, service, and shared purpose. With faith in our traditions and confidence in our collective strength, we look forward to another year of growth, connection, and meaningful progress.

With warm regards and best wishes for the year ahead,

Sunny Kaul

KPAE Memberships

The paid memberships of the Kashmiri Pandit Association of Europe (KPAE) have been a long-standing commitment of the baradari members and the seva office bearers. The operational activities of the association in general need the funds to give members and the office bearers enough confidence in carrying out different events, initiatives, and general well-being of the community.

In recent years we have seen a huge increase in the number for events and initiatives. It is always lovely to see our children finding their mates at these sports and cultural events, and for the older generation to reminiscence over a cup of kahwa or a bite of kheer.

At the moment we have just under 70 paid members. If you aren’t a paid member currently, consider becoming one to play a foundational role in building KPAE as the cultural, spiritual and social cornerstone for the UK biradari.

Our General Secretary Kapil Dhar wrote a piece on memberships for Isbund a few years ago – isbund.com

Please join us in congratulating Nyra Bhat as she is awarded Under-11 Cricketer All-Rounder of the Year 2025 while playing for Wokingham Cricket Club.

Another child flying the Berkshire county flag is Shaurya Zadoo, who recently took part in National Chess championship, representing Berkshire in u10s category. Our champ is ranked 2 in the county – so do watch his moves!

Meanwhile in Kent, Samara Ogra Menon won a bronze at the Kent Futures badminton tournament. Looks like she is definitely in preparation mode for the KPAE Badminton tournament.

And finally, we are delighted to share some inspiring international sporting news from Shiv Kaul (16), a Kashmiri Pandit youth representing Singapore at the British Junior Open Squash Championship 2026, held recently in Birmingham. Some of us were privileged to witness some exceptional performances, marked by skill, resilience, and remarkable mental strength. In one unforgettable match, Shiv staged a stunning comeback after being two games down, including a 0–11 second game, to win 3–2 against a much taller opponent — saving match points in the deciding game. His fighting spirit, belief, and composure under pressure were truly commendable. Shiv’s performance stands as a moment of pride for the KP Biradari and an inspiration for our younger generation.
