The story behind SC Raina Cup

Today, we are proud to establish the Badminton prizes celebrating the legacy of our great-grandparents, Shri Shamboo Nath and Late Chuni Raina, of Amira Kadal in Kashmir.

We have learnt the richness of our Kashmiri pandit culture and the values of compassion, discipline, resilience, and determination from Papa and Mummy as they are fondly known in the family.

Our great-grandmother taught us compassion, warmth, and selflessness. She welcomed everyone with open arms and never let anyone leave without a good hearty meal. Through her actions, she showed us that small acts of generosity create lasting impact and that true strength lies in empathy.

From our great-grandfather, we learned the value of hard work and discipline. Starting his day at 4am with a long walk, mandir visit and puja he showed remarkable consistency, resilience and strength having lost both parents at 12 years. Papa believed in avoiding overthinking and regrets, choosing instead to face challenges, do his best, and move forward. It is by embodying these values that the victor standing here today has earned their respective trophy.

We hope the bearer of this trophy, and all members of our community, carry forward these valuable lessons and benefit from implementing them into their own lives.
